How it works

Risk amount = account size × risk %. Lot size = risk amount ÷ (stop in pips × pip value of 1 lot). Example: 10,000 USD account, 1% risk = 100 USD. EURUSD, stop 25 pips, pip value 10 USD per lot. 100 ÷ (25 × 10) = 0.40 lots. If the stop hits, you lose about 100 USD, plus spread and any commission.

What to do with this number

Set the stop first, from your chart. Then size the trade. If you size first and then look for a stop that fits, the stop ends up in the wrong place.

Spread, commission and slippage are not in this number. On a tight stop they can add a lot. Keep a little room.

Discipline Guard does this on your chart: you drag the stop-loss line and the panel sets the lot size from your risk %.
